Extending image processing techniques to the field of medical imaging and developing new processing methodologies to segment anatomical features and detect pathologies revealed in images such as MRI's has become a focus of intense research in image processing. Artifacts of these types of images such as noise and a lack of focus combined with a relative sameness in the range of intensities of many of the different types of tissues elucidated presents a challenge to segmenting and analyzing regions of interest.

IEEE 802.15.4 is a standard defined for wireless sensor network applications with limited power and relaxed throughput needs. The devices transmit data during two periods: the contention access period (CAP), during which they can access the channel using CSMA/CA, and the contention free period (CFP), which consists of guaranteed time slots (GTS) allocated to individual devices by the network coordinator. These slots are used by devices for cyclic data transmission.
