Modern handheld devices like smart phones and PDAs have become increasingly powerful in recent years. This project aims to be a part of this mobile trend and help users to perform some of their daily activities on their smart phones. This application provides beneficial and useful information about Georgia State University's Downtown campus. It will not only assist current students and staff but also visitors, particularly those who are not acquainted with the campus. This application allows individuals to take a safe tour of the campus more conveniently and help them track down campus locations more efficiently. It has several points of interest around the GSU campus broken down into separate categories like ATMs, Restaurants, Bookstore, Coffee Shop, Computer Lab, Post Office, and Vehicle Parking sections. If the user clicks on any of the above listed items, all relevant points pertaining to that category will appear on the map. Detailed information about a given hotspot will be visible when the hotspot is tapped. The application will also provide search options relevant to a specific landmark in the map. It enables the user to bookmark locations for later use. Another important feature of the application is that all emergency contact information for the GSU Campus Police, GSU Safety Escort, GSU Health Clinic, and nearby hospitals is listed and it allows the user to call any contact or locate it on the map. Additionally, the application receives notifications of crime incidents around the GSU campus and thus acts as a vigilante.
