The Hypermedia and Visualization Laboratory (HVL) in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Georgia State University serves as a focal point for interdisciplinary research projects in these areas. Hypermedia, including multimedia, and visualization are closely linked and require similar sets of technology support and expertise including Computer Graphics, Human-Computer Interaction, Modeling and Simulation, Parallel Computing, Software Engineering, Numerical Analysis, and Art and Design. The HVL uses a wide variety of hardware and software, including UNIX, MS-Windows, and Macintosh systems, graphics modeling and rendering software, plus multimedia software for text, computer animations, sound, and video. Within the past two years the HVL has received over $600,000 in external research funding from the private and public sector for projects in multimedia research and training, graphics visualization, and software engineering.
