Research Facilities

Departmental computing facilities for research and instruction include a departmental network of PCs and UNIX (primarily Linux and Solaris) workstations, a 16-processor Origin 2000 supercomputer, and a 24-node Beowulf cluster. The department operates several laboratories for student research and instruction, including the Hypermedia and Visualization Laboratory.

The Georgia State University library provides students and faculty members with excellent facilities, in addition to online access and borrowing privileges at a number of Atlanta-area libraries and other research universities and institutions.

University-wide, more than 100 network file servers provide access to centrally supplied software, support e-mail (GroupWise), and provide services to more than 4,000 microcomputer workstations, including more than 450 workstations in open and instructional labs. The University is one of a few selected to participate in the Internet2 project.
