Prerequisites: CSC 3210 (Computer Organization and Programming)

                        CSC 4210/6210 (Computer Architecture)

 

Course Description:

This course will cover multiprocessors (including shared memory as well as distributed memory systems), vector processing, scalable performance, memory hierarchy (including cache memory organization), pipelining, and bus systems.

 

Textbook:       John L. Hennessy and David A. Patterson, “Computer Architecture: A Quantitative Approach,” 4th edition, Morgan Kaufmann                      


Attendance:   
Daily attendance is strongly encouraged.  Any student missing a lesson is

                        responsible for all material assigned or covered in class during his or her

                        absence

 

Grading Policy:  The grades for this course will be based upon the following components:                                                                   

 

1.  Exam #1 (tent. Sept. 24th)              25%

 

2.  Exam #2 (tent. Nov. 10th)              25% 

 

3.  Assignments                                   25%

    (written assignments and paper presentations)

 

4.  Term Project                                   25%

                                                                                                  

The final letter grade will be determined based on the following criteria:

A      90 – 100

B       80 – 89

C      70 – 79

D      60 – 69

F       59 and below

 

Other Policies: 

  1. Make-up exams must be arranged prior to the scheduled date and will be allowed only at the discretion of the instructor. 

 

  1. All assignments and projects must be turned in at the start of class on the due date. The penalty for late assignment submissions is 20% and must be turned in by the start of the first class after the due date. No assignments will be accepted after that class.

 

  1. Any material submitted for work should be the student’s own work. Duplicate assignments (all or any part of) will receive a grade of zero.  Any student found to be cheating on an examination will receive a score of zero. Determination of copying, excessive collaboration, and/or plagiarism is left to the judgment of the instructor.

 

  1. All re-grading requests must be made within two classes of when the work was returned in class.

 

  1. Cell phones and pagers must be turned off during class. First violation receives a warning. All succeeding violations result in a ten point deduction off the final exam. Any violation during a quiz or exam results in a ten percent deduction off the corresponding paper. No warnings for quizzes or exams.

 

  1. All exams and quizzes will be proctored by an experienced instructor.

 

Last date to withdraw:  Wednesday October 1, 2008.
