  • September 1, 2012 - Serghei won Travel Fellowship. Serghei won travel fellowship to attend ECCB 2012.  ECCB'12 - the European Conference on Computational Biology - is the key European computational biology event in 2012 uniting scientists working in a broad range of disciplines, including bioinformatics, computational biology, biology, medicine, and systems biology. ECCB'12 will take place 9-12 September 2012 at the Congress Center Basel, Switzerland.

  • June 21, 2012 - Serghei won Travel Fellowship. Serghei won travel fellowship to attend ISMB 2012.  The conference is held in Los Angeles, CA, on July 15 - July 17.

  • May 22, 2012 - Serghei's poster received best poster award at ISBRA 2012, Dallas, TX. Serghei's poster "An Integer Programming Approach to Novel Transcript Reconstruction from Paired-End RNA-Seq Reads" received best poster award at ISBRA 2012, Dallas, TX

  • May 1, Serghei presented series of public lectures in bioinformatics. Serghei presented series of public lectures in bioinformatics as a part of collaboration with Center of Molecular Biology, University of Academy of Sciences of Moldova. This collaboration was supported by Grant Program for Moldovan Overseas Graduates by Moldovan Academy of Sciences.

  • March 10, 2012 - Serghei won NSF Travel Grant. Serghei won NSF travel grant to attend RECOMB 2012.  The conference is held in Barcelona, Spain, on April 19 - April 24.

  • February 1, 2012 - Serghei was invited to give a talk. Serghei was invited to give a talk "Novel Transcript Reconstruction from Paired-End RNA-Seq Reads Using Fragment Length Distribution" at ICCABS 2012, Las Vegas, NV. His travel was supported by NSF Travel Fellowship.

  • September 12, 2011 - Serghei is participating in Program on Mathematical and Computational Approaches in High-Throughput Genomics, IPAM, UCLA. Serghei is participant at the Institute for Pure and Applied Mathematics (IPAM) for its Fall 2011 Program on Mathematical and Computational approaches in High-Throughput Genomics to be held at IPAM for the period of September 12, 2011 – December 16, 2011.

  • August 11,2011 - Serghei's poster received best poster award at Life Technologies Intern Poster Session, Foster City, CA. Serghei's poster "Orthogonal Error Correction Codes in Next Generation Sequencing" received best poster award at Life Technologies Intern Poster Session, Foster City, CA.

  • July 28,2011 - Serghei was awarded Second Century Initiative Bioinformatics University Doctoral Fellowship. Second Century Initiative has the intention to build internationally recognized scholarly research strength in themes with national significance to enhance GSU's quality, interdisciplinary richness and competitiveness.

  • July 07, 2011 - Serghei accepted the challenge to bike 61 miles to support Breathe California in their fight against lung disease.   • June 2, 2011 - Paper accepted for WABI 2011. Paper "Maximum Likelihood Estimation of Incomplete Genomic Spectrum from HTS Data", Authors: S. Mangul, I. Astrovskaya, M. Nicolae, B. Tork, I. Mandoiu and A. Zelikovsky, was accepted for publication in the 11th Workshop on Algorithms in Bioinformatics (WABI 2011).
